Following tutorials

It was difficult to do a caricature based on myself because I'm used to seeing my face and I'm not necessarily aware of which facial features are the most prominent. So I did by best to identify main features:

  • large, round eyes

  • small mouth, red lips

  • long eyelashes

  • small chin

  • pointed face

  • freckles

After looking at some character design artists and browsing for inspiration of Pinterest, I set myself the task of sketching a completely random character from scratch in a few mins.

I followed the tutorial, and tested different lightings. This was helpful for me to learn how to build up a face without too much detail, understanding which part of the face is highlighted and which part is shaded. The artist - Sakimichan- had free brushes available for download on his page. I used these while doing this tutorial. This was a quite different style to my previous responses- a more 3 dimensional form. I like this style the most and find the technique simple to follow, its balance between detail and realistic lighting with cartoon features. I will defiantly take this forward and reference it later in my project.

This is  simple block colour character drawn using a tablet (like with the Victor Mosquera response)

  • more modern character

  • in casual outfit

  • inspired by Prince canary

I want to design the concept art for a book I was writing. I have a lot of unused concepts I would like to work with and I am really excited by this idea.

- A response to Lucy Does Art

- a character that I have made up myself:

  • another fantasy character

  • jewels in hair, tattoos, reflective/ opalescent trousers
