Planning

I could limit myself to using these colours to replicate Glenns style:

Constants in his work:

  • Blue background

  • Primary / tertiary colour face

  • few flesh tones

  • Blue as the main colour

  • White is always used

  • Muddy in places

Observations:

Uses oil to create interesting brush strokes - wild and unconstricted

How i will do it:

  • Use photoshop

  • Try various brushes and effects to get the style

  • Layer up colours

  • Use liquify

  • Choose a portrait done by a famous artist (next page)

  • Use tablet

  • Do a portrait

GLENN BROWN

Inspiration:

  • Colour

  • shapes

  • Angle

  • Detail

  • Backgrounds

  • Brushes used

  • Vibrancy

  • Sketches

  • Subject

  • Paint effect

  • Liveliness

Thomas lawrence

Because Glenn Brown transforms other artists work into his own, I have chosen to use Thomas Lawrence's work as my reference.

response

This is my response to Glenn's work. I chose to work from this image because I felt it had  the most potential for experimentation with his style e.g. with the shoulders missing, I wanted to have the effect of paint dripping down. I used the liquify tool on Photoshop to make it look like acrylic paint and dragged the colours off in various directions to give it the chaotic feel of Glenn's paintings. I kept it similar to his style by basing it on his portrait and keeping the primary colour scheme (yellow skin, red hat and blue background).
