Evaluation

In my project proposal I said I would digitally paint and or collage my final piece, this is something I did. I think i turned out rather well, i used a combination of researched artists and my own ideas.I feel I gained a lot of new skills both practical and soft such as: better painting skills and better interpretation. Also I used my research on kintsugi in my project and that set the course for the theme i worked with. I have achieved my intentions by communicating the idea of putting broken pieces back together and making something whole again.

My project has an optimistic feel like i wanted and my outcome does not focus on the sharpness of the word fragmented, but on the beauty of it.

I have definitely improved my artistic skills. I know this because my ability to use Photoshop smoothly (and with a drawing tablet) has increased through practice as well as my idea generation. The practitioner research was helpful because it allowed me to see how you get ahead in the art world, and i found that most modern artists use social media and websites to make their living and get exposure.

Kode abdo is a good example of a successful digital artist; he as his own website, online shop, social media and agent. His success came almost entirely from the internet which makes such a career goal seem more achievable (internet=more connected to the world).

Responding to this, i have begun to create my own online shop and sell my art on products such as tops, hoodies, cups, bags and phone cases. I know i have grown during this project because i would never have done this before.

I feel my work shows development as you go through my experiments because there a point where i started the technique (e.g. the collaging) and then i familiarise myself with how it is done through tutorials. then there is a final few pieces where you can see i have improved my understanding of it. Doing so many different styles exploring colour, text, emotion and even cutting up images has improved my creativity and allowed me to think more outside the box than before. I am also more open to looking at artists i wouldn't normally go for

From the activity where we were given artist recommendations from other group members, i have learned that it is not always about replicating the artist’s exact work, but more about the interpretation. For example you can incorporate an artist who does textiles instead of digital art, but as an interesting use of colour that is relevant to your theme.

The parts i enjoy most about my project are the pieces that were not intentional. For example, the spaceman collage was just a test to see what obscure objects i could use instead of planets, but it then became something that has a lot of meaning and depth. I also i like the presentation of my website, especially given that in September i had never used wix before. But i think the most successful part of my project are my ideas. I feel i have had some interesting visual interpretations and have explored many meanings of fragmented.

Some parts of my project were not as good as they could have been. there were some ideas that were very good, but i didn't really go anywhere with them or there was research that became irrelevant. Therefore if i were to do the project again I would be sure to refine my research and keep it relevant to my project. I would also improve the continuity; in places i feel that it jumps around and needs to be put in more of an order.

Overall i think this has been quite a successful and enlightening project that has really given me ideas for art i want to produce now, ideas for the future and going in to the next project.
